Upsets aplenty in first ever fun Brazilian Jazz tournament

Just like during the first week of the NCAA’s Big Dance, there were plenty of shakeups in the brackets:

In the Joao Gilberto Region,

Maia Sharp had more gusto to knock out both Torcuato Mariano and Karen Souza.

In the Sergio Mendes Region,

Who would have thought Ze Bruno would have gotten the better of Marina Elali?  Certainly, not this blog reporter.  Far from it.  And similar to what Wichita State did to Gonzaga in Salt Lake City on Saturday, the overall experience of Gal Costa easily trumped Bianca Rossini.

The Jobim Region had another surprise, with Walter Wanderley getting past the 5 seed in Dori Caymmi and the 8 seed in Marcela Mangabeira.

But, as widely expected…the other three number 1 seeds survived with relative ease.
