Master Composers: Astrud Gilberto and Her Awesome Performance With Stan Getz Highlighted A Truly Fun Night

Fifty years ago on August 19, 1964, if there was a fly on the wall inside the Cafe Au Go Go  (a jazz style coffeehouse in sleepy Greenwich, Connecticut)…

they would have been pleasantly surprised by what they heard.

The 1964 album (reissued in CD form with digital quality stereo sound in 2007) helped cement both Getz and Gilberto to international stardom.

Take for example the rhyming title of “6-Nix-Pix-Flix” or the 8th track, “The Telephone Song”:

Quite amazing rhythm, don’t you think?

Here is their version of “Corcovado” (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars):
