Concert Review: Ivete Sangalo Simply Sparkled at MSG in 2010
Born as Ivete Maria Dias de Sangalo Cady on May 27, 1972 in Bahia, this talented Latin Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter made a mini-American tour in 2010.
The tour included Seu Jorge and Nelly Furtado. The DVD of this concert which took place on Saturday, September 4, 2010 inside New York City’s Madison Square Garden was released in early December 2010.
She made five costume changes, which I highlighted some of the memorable outfits below.
Her show was high energy and filled with many highlights throughout–of which there were too many to list in this such short of space.
The crowd was definitely into the show, even before she belted her out first note. She came out entering knee high black boots as if she was a distant fan of the old time Saturday Night Live act of the late 1970’s in the Coneheads.
By the time she changed into a gold hat with matching dress then a bit later into a long white dress with black dots, she sang very passionately the late Michael Jackson’s smooth jazz hit, “Human Nature.”
Later in the concert, she teamed up with Seu Jorge on one of her big hits, “Pensando Em Nos Dois”. Her other two songs sung entirely in English were with Nelly Furtado on “Where It Begins” and later the early 1980’s ballad by Lionel Richie with “Easy (Like Sunday Morning).”
There is also in the bonus features a clip of her at the Austin, Texas Octoberfest celebration. The best part has to be a cool behind-the-scenes look of her shaking hands with fans while riding in a New York City taxi cab (not an easy thing to do, just fyi). Other shots show fans waiting to get in, while in another shot shows Ivete sampling a hot dog from a street peddler around Central Park and taking pics with other fans. So approachable she is everywhere she goes.
Then, it is onto hair and makeup while all of the special effects get into place.
And then it’s showtime:
There is also a corresponding CD that comes with the DVD.
All in all, a high energy show from a high energy woman. Five stars all the way!
