Olympic Update: Stephen Curry to miss Rio
NBA MVP to rest his knees once NBA Finals wrap up
Monday afternoon saw a pair of NBA All-Stars pass on their chance to etch their names into Olympic lore in men’s basketball.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, along with San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge will skip the Rio Olympics to rest the knees and finger injuries, respectively.
In a statement published on the USOB website, Team USA Chairman Jerry Colangelo mentioned that no players on the current roster have any reservations about being in Brazil and possibly becoming in contact with the Zika virus (albeit the initial fears could be tamed somewhat if somehow the temperatures steer toward autumn-like levels, say around 70 to 75 degrees in the afternoon, instead of the constant Miami-like heat of temperatures soaring into the triple digits each and every day).
Clearly, team depth is going to be a major factor come August. Stay tuned for more key details in the final weeks leading up to the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.
