Mike Tirico will join roster of NBC Sports daytime hosts for Rio Olympics

New NBC Sports hire Mike Tirico will join the likes of Al Michaels, Liam McHugh, and Carolyn Manno manning the daytime shift in Rio.  After spending 25 years at ESPN, his first major assignment for the Peacock is a familiar one–covering the British Open golf tournament, of which he has covered extensively since 1997 when it was on ESPN/ABC at the time.

According to a press release Wednesday from the NBCSports.com website, a good handful of reporters will not be going to Rio, largely due to the growing concerns of the Zika virus and recent reports of major violence scattered throughout the city.

Some will stay behind in Stamford, Connecticut–while the people covering golf will report the action from Golf Channel headquarters in Orlando, Florida.
