Team USA Romps to Gold in Women’s Basketball
As expected, the American women’s basketball team claims gold for the sixth consecutive Olympics
Welcome To Rio Roundup, Day Fifteen–Part One.
A close first half turned into another rout during the second half, even though one Spanish player decided to hit a 40 foot three at the third quarter buzzer.
Even Team USA/Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma could only smile and watch. Thanks again to Tamika Catchings and Diana Taurasi, they have joined with Sue Bird (injured and was not able to play the last two games) and Sheryl Swoopes as four-time Olympic gold medalists.
The final score was the United States 101, Spain 72. Everyone contributed to the win and it was well deserved. Congratulations, ladies. Job well done!
Angry women’s indoor volleyball team claims bronze
ALL IN–that was the motto of the 2016 Team USA women’s indoor volleyball team. Their single-minded focus clearly came in handy on Saturday afternoon in dispatching of the Netherlands in four tense, but very close sets. This was the seventh consecutive time that the Americans have beaten the Dutch in international competition.
Thought of the Day:
Recent Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy stopped by on cloudy Copacabana Beach to tell his normal Football Night in America partner Dan Patrick some of the events that he saw in person during the last few nights.
He was amazed by Argentina’s basketball team and how Usain Bolt carried himself to another gear. But what I found most amazing was a question that Patrick posed to him about whether Bolt could succeed playing pro football in another life:
“No question…he is that scary. He would have a huge advantage speed-wise, but it would be interesting to see how he could read coverages.”
And if you want some more football trivia, independent rock artist St. Vincent did the rocking version of the Star Spangled Banner during the NFL’s “One Family” ads.
Cleverly done also are some of the team’s ground crews from Los Angeles to Tennessee painting some of their end zones with the moniker, TEAM USA.
Stereogum, a popular music downloading and article site has a brief interview with the artist talking about her love for her favorite team in the Dallas Cowboys.
