Bebel Gilberto to be featured in 1980’s Compilation album
Album will be benefiting amFAR, a research foundation helping to eradicate the deadly virus known as AIDS
According to the Billboard website and the music review site Stereogum, they both reported on September 8 that the daughter of the most popular last name in Brazilian jazz will lend her talent on Duran Duran’s mega 1984 dance hit as the popular rock song gets a much needed bossa nova slowdown with “Rio”. It will be featured on the fifth track of the album entitled, The Time Is Now.
Popular independent rock artists of today from bands like Phantogram and Metric covering hits from Phil Collins and Church will be highlighted. Also being featured in the album is two-time Playboy magazine model Dita Von Teese teaming up with Sebastien Tellier on Boy George and Culture Club’s popular single, “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me.”
The album will be released both in physical form and online via Spotify and iTunes on Friday, October 7. Even movie star Scarlett Johannson will be singing a portion of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle” as part of the Sugar for Sugar group (Track 2).
Here are the links to the Stereogum article which contains the actual track listing and the Billboard link containing a totally different sounding version of Aloe Blacc covering the late, great Michael Jackson’s really cool 1982 hit of “Billie Jean”:
If you are a fan of 1980’s pop rock like I am, this is one album not to miss. Even better, the proceeds will go to a very worthy cause.
