Jamaica stripped of 2008 track team 4 x 100 relay gold
Move by IOC means that Usain Bolt will finish one gold short of both 1980’s American track star Carl Lewis and earlier Olympics legend Paavo Nurmi
The swift move by the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday afternoon showed that Nesta Carter was stripped of his participation from the 2008 Beijing Games due to testing positive to the stimulant methylhexaneamine.
This means that eventually if and when the IAAF gets around to modifying the order of finish–it would mean that Trinidad and Tobago would earn the gold after missing out in the smog of Beijing, while Japan would take another silver, and Brazil would finally have another bronze–albeit a tainted medal.
For the record, former Olympic track star Usain Bolt finishes with eight golds which is one short of tying the record for most track and field gold medals all-time.
